The world’s first phone

Alexander Graham Bell is most famous for his invention of the telephone, he created the concept and function. Thomas Edison refined the design into the modern phone, from which all phones have evolved.

Bell also invented the gramophone, the first recorder in the world. It is thanks to the gramophone that we have record players, radios, and cassettes.

He worked extensively in the Deaf community by teaching at Deaf schools and tutoring (he tutored Helen Keller at one point!) His mother was Hard of Hearing and an accomplished pianist and his wife Mabel Gardiner Hubbard was daughter of a Boston lawyer. She became sick with scarlet fever at five years old, causing her deafness. She is the one who encouraged Alexander Graham Bell to show the world his inventions, so we have to thank her too for the inventions!
