Three Deaf Women Killed in Haiti

It’s believed that being deaf is a curse

In Haiti, people with disabilities face extreme discrimination due to the outdated cultural belief that they are cursed. This what the Haitian investigators believe to be the case of the three deaf women being murdered.

The women were found in a ditch with their tongues cut out, clearly victims of a hate crime. It’s not the first time that this has happened; the majority of the victims of hate crimes are women and girls.

Some Haitians still hold onto the old belief that people with disabilities are cursed; these killings have shaken up the public in Haiti and now many are demanding justice.
